When experiences a death, create a goodbye ritual.
When a child experiences death - whether a pet, a family member or friend, they need a goodbye ritual that they can understand. If they can not attend a funeral, consider having your own little ceremony so they have a chance to say good- bye. Some suggestions would be burying a loved one's possesions in the backyard, sending a balloon with a note in it to heaven, or create a book of memories. Children need to process grief so as their parent, help them find a way to say "good-bye".
